At what age did you start hunting and fishing?
I started hunting and fishing with my father and grandfather as soon as I was old enough to take a walk in the woods, but like most kids from Pennsylvania, I actual started carrying a gun when I was 12 years old.

Who had the greatest influence on getting you into hunting and fishing?
My father by far was the greatest influence when comes to my addiction to the outdoors.  As a kid, hunting was a lifestyle, a way of life and the first day of rifle season in Northwest Pennsylvania was more exciting for kids than Christmas.

What is the single most important issue you see facing outdoor sportsman?
This isn’t a very hard question to answer – Kids in the outdoors! At Wired Outdoors, www.WiredOutdoors.com, this is one of our top priorities and being involved with children and getting them in the outdoors is critical.  Whether it is our own children, or kids in our local community, we are dedicated to sharing our lifestyle with as many kids as possible. We have the pleasure each year of spending the day with over 400 kids from right in our hometown at the Clarion County Youth Field Day and each year we dedicate an entire episode to the event.  Here is a link to last years episode with over 400 kids fired up about the outdoors – http://www.wiredoutdoors.com/our_show/season_two/episode6.html .
It is because of folks like those on the Clarion County Youth Field Day Committee that truly make a difference.

When I was a kid I didn’t have five different basketball leagues, baseball, video games, we had the woods and water to entertain us.  That simply isn’t the case anymore.  Parents find themselves so busy with all the extra curricular activities that there is little time to go for a walk in the woods or visit the local bluegill pond.  I do believe it all starts with the parents and they have to make the time. Slow down, make the kids put the video games down and get them outside – Someday they will THANK YOU for it!

How do you use social media in your business?
Social Media is our business.  That is what Wired Outdoors is all about and has been for the past three years.  With over 36,000 fans and growing on Facebook, www.facebook.com/wiredoutdoors , we are dedicated to keeping all our fans updated with all of the latest happenings, status updates on where we are hunting, webisodes, and “On Demand” videos with all the latest happenings.  We knew over 3 years ago that social networking was going to be big and that is why we made the commitment to it way before any others in the industry.

How has social media allowed you to interact with your viewers and has it helped grow your brand recognition.
I think it is fairly obvious with over 36,000 fans on Facebook, www.facebook.com/wiredoutdoors , and growing, it is the most powerful brand recognition tool available to marketers.  Wired Outdoors was founded on the internet and social networking and it is a key component to our brand strategy.

We have always been all about our fans and Facebook enables us to interact with our fans in ways that have never been possible.  With millions of outdoorsmen and women on Facebook, there is no better place to communicate with your fans!

How often do you get to hunt or fish?
Really depends on the season.  September through December is always the busiest time of year that I generally spend more time hunting than actually being at home.  Last year I spent time hunting, caribou, elk, moose, hogs, geese, pheasant, bear, gators, turkey and whitetail in 6 different states and Canada.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?
I would have to say my favorite outdoor activity is any time spent outdoors with my 8 year old son, Colin, who is really getting fired up about hunting.  Last year was his first turkey outing and I will never forget our first big hunt together. I cannot wait to get him back out there chasing longbeards again this year. Here is a link to that episode of my first hunt with Colin -  http://www.wiredoutdoors.com/our_show/season_two/episode1.html

How do you give back?
At Wired Outdoors I couldn’t be more proud of how we give back.  Last year we established the event Camo Cares, dedicated to sending children with life threatening illnesses on their “Hunt of A Lifetime”.  In our first year, with an event that was organized and promoted solely on Facebook we raised $20,000.00!  Not only did we raise enough money to send 7 very sick kids on their Hunt of A Lifetime, we tagged along on a very special moose hunt in northern Maine and filmed it for our tv show.  This show has went viral on the internet and viewed over 20,000 times in less than two weeks!  I would encourage everyone to watch this show and it will really put things into perspective. I can guarantee it will be the best 20 minutes of your day.  Click this link to watch this emotional show online – http://www.wiredoutdoors.com/our_show/season_two/episode7.html

How were your parents influential?
My parents by far have been the biggest influence in my life.  Not only instilling in me my love for the outdoors, but more importantly molding me into the kind of person I am today.

At what age do you recommend getting kids involved in hunting or fishing?
As soon as they can walk!  Hunting doesn’t have to be about pulling the trigger, fishing doesn’t have to be about the catching fish.  It is about getting them in the outdoors and making it a lifestyle.
